Ms. Lori Andreachuk
Lori has distinguished herself both professionally and personally since she graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 1977. Lori also received her Law Degree from the University of Alberta in 1977, completing her Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree and Law Degree in the same year. Lori went on to article with the law firm of Paterson North and was admitted to the Bar in 1978. She became the first female partner of a law firm in Lethbridge two years later in 1980. Lori earned her Queen's Counsel designation in 1992, a designation which recognizes lawyers who have contributed their time and effort to the community, their profession and their clients. In 1992 Lori was also appointed a Founding Member of the University of Lethbridge Foundation. She was appointed to the Alberta Advisory Council on Women's Issues in 1986, serving until 1991. Lori is responsible for recommending to the Government of Alberta and seeing to the implementation of various programs including the Maintenance Enforcement Program, and the legalization of Midwifery. In 1993 she was appointed to the President's Advisory Council of the University of Lethbridge and served as a Bencher for the Law Society for three years. She was appointed to the Alberta Human Rights Commission in 1995 and is the longest serving Human Rights Commissioner in Alberta. In that capacity Lori has been responsible for authoring numerous decisions, advancing Human Rights laws in Alberta in the fields of gender discrimination, employment discrimination and she has been instrumental in dealing with the manner in which Human Rights matters are dealt with in the Province of Alberta. She has received many honors and awards, has held many directorships and appointments, including serving on various Law Society Committees, serving on the Canadian Civil Justice Task Force, and on the Canadian Task Force on Alternate Dispute Resolution.
